Band Friends Program Info

Overview

Get experience playing in a band! Whether you’ve never played in a band before, or you’re returning to play in the band you’ve played with for years, our Band Friends program facilitates practice playing with other musicians, preparing a set, and performing as a group, for all levels. Most bands meet weekly, with a performance showcase at the end of the semester.

This fall, some advanced bands will spend the semester focused on writing original music, culminating in 1 professionally recorded song, in lieu of a performance showcase. These bands are asked to commit through May, with the fall focused on original music creation, and the spring focused on traditional set/showcase preparation

What’s required:

At least 1 year of experience with your instrument

Ongoing private lessons for your primary instrument

Commitment through at least 1 semester

Bands start at age 8

Time commitment:

weekly 60-90 minute band sessions + independent practice in between.

See more info below.

What else do I need to join the program?

A willingness to collaborate, learn as part of a group, and practice independently between band sessions

When you join the program, we will place you in a band that matches your age, skill level, & goals.

Sing ‘n Swap Program Info

Overview

This new program is designed specially for singers who play an instrument, and instrumentalists who want to sing! Students will meet for 90 mins each week, splitting time between band rehearsal & group vocal practice. Students in these groups have the opportunity to gain experience collaborating as part of a band, get specialized vocal training, and be able to both sing and support the group as part of a band.

This is a great option for musicians who want more vocal training than our Band Friends program offers, and who want to get the best of both worlds performing as both a singer & instrumentalist.

What’s required:

1 year of experience with your instrument

Ongoing private lessons for your instrument (vocal private lessons not required to participate!)

Commitment through at least 1 semester

Groups in this program range from ages 8-12
