Course Overview:

Taught by a former homeschooler, this course is designed to introduce high-school-aged homeschool students to all things theatre at a pre-collegiate level! Topics will include theatre history from the ancient Greeks to modern musical theatre, acting concepts & terms, stage technique, monologue & scene work, script analysis, watching & analyzing plays, and even some writing & improv.

Intended as a broad overview with flexibility to dive deeper into concepts based on learners’ inclinations, the course may culminate in a collection of monologues & scenes, a costume or set design project, or a writing presentation.

Whether you are brand new to theatre or have done it before, this course will dive deeper into topics you are familiar with, and introduce you to new sides of theatre arts you don’t yet know!

Audrey Clark

Although you may know me as the RSM Program Manager, I have a theatre background that runs deep! My mom was a theatre teacher and put me in one of her middle school productions at age 4. Theatre was always around, in my blood and in my home growing up, however when my family began homeschooling when I was in 6th grade, I wasn’t sure how I would be able to be part of theatrical productions. Although we lived in Dallas - a large arts hub - professional and community theaters didn’t offer the same educational foundation as public school arts programs, and with a mixture of kids and adults, weren’t as safe as my mom preferred. Lucky for me, we found a homeschool co-op which offered large scale productions at a level similar to the best public high-school arts programs nearby. It was here, where I could learn alongside my peers, that my love for theatre truly blossomed!

I went on first to community college, then to Santa Fe University of Art and Design where I earned my BFA in Theatre Acting. In both schools, I was essentially as involved in theatre as one person possibly could be. I worked in the scene shop and costume shop, starred in 9 productions plus student short films, developed original work, directed, and soaked in all I could. Homeschooling taught me to value every opportunity to learn, and boy, did I!

Moving back to Texas, I’ve gained lots more experience with directing & teaching through The Linden Grove Theatre Co., KidsActing Studio, and here at Radha School of Music. I have also held a variety of professional positions from Project Management in Corporate Media, Boutique Retail Management, and Arts Program Management. Through each career pivot, I have excelled due to the skills I learned in theatre.

I strongly believe that no matter where a career takes you as an adult, learning theatre as an adolescent gives you invaluable skills like creative problem solving, communication, work ethic, accepting feedback, and resiliency through failure. These are skills that are difficult to train in a professional environment, which smart recruiters look for, and which simply make you a happier, more capable human being. I know this to be true from my own life.

It is my dream to teach these skills to Austin area homeschoolers through high level theatre instruction, inspired by the same invaluable program I was lucky enough to be part of as a teen homeschooler.

Shows are coming in Summer & Fall 2027!
