Music Collabs are an alternative performance opportunity to solo recitals. Instead of performing on your own, you will rehearse and perform in collaboration with 2 or more other student musicians of a similar age and level.
Music Collabs are recommended for drummers & bassists over solo recitals, however it is open to everyone at RSM, and playing with other people is the best way for musicians of all types to level up!
What are Music Collabs?
Music Collabs are a way for you to prepare & perform a song with 2 or more other musicians in a collaborative setting. You'll get a glimpse of the type of collaboration emphasized through our Band program, but without needing to commit for an entire semester. You can lead a project (with the help of your teacher) based on your own song idea, or play to support another musician's idea. We hope that many students will sign up to do both!
How does it work?
Fill out the Music Collabs Form here & give us any info you have about your idea, or sign up to support another person's project and we will match you with a group at a similar age & skill-level. This should be in close collaboration with your private lesson teacher, who will help you throughout the process, similar to how they might help you prepare for a recital.
Once we receive enough sign-ups for a performance, we will reach out to you to schedule a performance date & time that works for everyone.
Sign-ups are always open and performances will be scheduled on a rolling basis!
How much does it cost?
Music Collabs are a $75 fee which covers 1 performance and two 30-minute rehearsals for one song.
If you perform more than 1 song, or have a particularly complex piece, more rehearsals may be required, but total fees shouldn't exceed $150 per student.
