At the age of 13, Cody was gifted a guitar by his mom. With determination and a stack of instructional books, Cody began playing on a path of self-taught musicianship, originally fueled by a deep admiration for Elvis. He started with guitar until his church band needed a bass player. From there, it became Cody’s favorite and primary instrument. Cody eventually pursued a music degree at the college level, focusing on jazz, composition, improvisation, and adding upright bass to his skillset. He applies these aspects in his teaching, alongside several other genres including funk, rock, and pop. Currently, Cody performs with four different bands and composes his own music. He enjoys getting to teach other budding musicians and loves to witness his students conquer challenging musical skills and write music.

It’s amazing to see the students learn difficult skills and push through to create good music, even when they aren’t sure they can do it. My favorite aspect of music is everyone being together. When you play music with other people, you can share special moments.”
