Students will have two composition projects per class: one will adhere strictly to the style of the topic, and the other will be free choice. To allow students the most time to experiment and create, this course will have five weekly group classes and a weekly private lesson with either Matt or Cody, between which students will work on their compositions on their own time. There will be a final performance to showcase the students' music! Students can use RSM computers at in-person group classes, however it’s encouraged to bring a laptop if you have one. You will also need a device with a DAW (digital audio workstation) at home.

See below for our recommendation & all required supplies.

Our Electronic Composition Course will teach students the history and methods of using technology to create music spanning from the 1940s until present. Each class will focus on a different way to compose electronic music, including Music Concrete, basic waveforms, sampling, and electroacoustic techniques.

This course is for intermediate and advanced students who want to broaden their music composition horizons and are ready to work more independently.
