My musical journey began before I was even born. My mom played handbells while pregnant with me, and apparently I joined rehearsals by kicking along! I officially started music lessons in early elementary school with piano and added flute in middle school. Since then, I've been lucky to study and perform music in diverse settings, and I love sharing my excitement with students and fellow artists. Along the way, music has taken me to a lot of different places. I earned a BA in Music from Abilene Christian University, an MM in Music History and Flute Performance from Baylor University, and a PhD in Musicology from Arizona State University. I also studied contemporary flute with Robert Dick in New York City and completed a Deep Listening certification through the Center for Deep Listening. With performance experience in various contexts, from solo and chamber music, to band, orchestra, flute choir, and contemporary/experimental ensembles, I'm comfortable with a wide array of styles and genres. Building relationships through art and music is deeply rewarding, and lessons are a great avenue for that. When learning flute, I encourage careful listening and an embodied awareness, often incorporating fun techniques like singing while playing and curiosity-driven exploration. It’s a joy to support and guide others on their musical journeys.
“My favorite part of teaching is building relationships rooted in a shared love of music. I enjoy getting to know students by how they listen to and hear the world around them, and it’s inspiring to come alongside them as they shape their own sonic contributions.”
